HR Policy
Hire, motivate and retain the very best!
The GRC knows that the success of its program is dependent on all staff members: teachers and management. There must be a clear vision from the Directors and staff. A demonstrated commitment to deliver top quality care and education, not just as we define it but as presented to us through collaboration and feedback from parents. It is with this clarity and focus that the GRC makes every staffing decision.
Hiring practices
The aim is to recruit the very best candidates, right from the start. We look beyond resumés for bright, confident, sincere and zealous individuals with a willingness to embrace the Reggio philosophy and have a career path that is in line with the Centre's direction. Applications are accepted by e-mail at: info@glebereggiocentre.ca. Successful candidates must demonstrate a love for children, patience and passion for teaching. Our teachers are also expected to be respectful, to value each others' time and the importance of the team. Referrals by other staff members, parents and colleagues in the industry are also favourably considered.
Teachers must have an Early Childhood Education (ECE) or be ECE in-training. They must provide a clean, recent criminal reference check, satisfactory references and agree to comply with all the regulations of the Day Nurseries Act of Ontario (DNA) as well as the GRC's Policies and Procedures covering all internal matters including privacy and confidentiality.
The GRC welcomes ECE students who need of practical placements in order for to complete the certificate.
Salary and benefits
The GRC offers a competitive pay package that is commensurate with experience, qualification and skills. Many aspects of our compensation package are offered by no other Daycare Centre !
In addition to a generous vacation and sick leave package, employees receive full group health benefits and insurance. Educators also receive continuous educational training including trips to Reggio seminars across Canada, in the US and Italy. There is also the benefit of paid educational days to study or sit exams for Centre-related and approved courses. Continuous training and support is provided to the teachers to ensure that they feel reassured and equipped. This training may be in-house or seminars overseas.
All full time employees are eligible for performance bonuses in the form of cash or additional vacation or a combination of the two.
Motivation
The role of Early Childhood Educator is rewarding as well as challenging. For this reason, we believe that the workplace must be free of all unnecessary burden and stress. Caring for and educating young children demands our full attention and energy. Staff are encouraged to stay focused and share ideas on child development and projects and to always keep communication simple, honest, open and relevant.
The GRC encourages a healthy work life balance and provides support in times of family needs.
The Centre conducts written and verbal performance evaluations for all staff. These are designed to highlight strengths and help the educator identify areas needing improvement.
The Centre hosts many social events. Some are driven by our holiday calendar and others simply by our desire to spend time with the team and renew team energy.
Retention practices
Trained, motivated staff is considered one of the most valuable assets of the GRC and keeping staff motivated is a top priority. This is why much time and resources go into organised team building exercises, training and staff socials. We do recognize that from time to time, careers or life plans change, varying opportunities arise and often this means that staff will take different paths. Parents are often anxious about a new teacher within the school year. However, it is noteworthy that the Pre-school/Daycare sector has one of the highest job turnover rates of any sector in Canada for reasons previously outlined.
Change is sometimes unavoidable and will remain a natural part of growth. The GRC maintains a reliable system with quality assurance at its core.
Privacy
The GRC recognizes and respects every individual's right to privacy. All documents and communication relating to the Centre's families are kept secure. No information about any child is released to anyone without the express consent of that child's parent/s or legal guardian.
The same rules apply to the staff's right to privacy and the information of every member o staff is kept strictly confidential.
Any breach of the GRC's privacy policies is taken very seriously and subject to thorough investigation.
